Heather Thomas has been a lawyer for over 30 years and has worked in the insurance industry for over 25 years. She qualified at Linklaters and specialised in commercial litigation until she joined Willis Faber plc (now Willis Limited), the international insurance broker, where she led the Legal and Risk Management and Market Security Departments. In 1998 she joined the Insurance and Reinsurance Department of Lovells, where she was a consultant, conducting contentious and non-contentious business for international insurance and reinsurance clients. While at Lovells she was part of the team advising on the implementation of the Insurance Mediation Directive and published a book on the regulation of insurance intermediaries in 2004. In 2005 Heather became the General Counsel and Company Secretary of Wellington Underwriting plc, a FTSE 250 company, and also the Compliance Officer of the group’s Lloyd’s agency. Heather left Wellington in the spring of 2007 following the takeover of the company. She has since set up her own practice as an adviser to insurance and reinsurance market participants.
Heather is a panel member of ARIAS (UK) and an accredited mediator.
She is a Non-Executive Director of The Veterinary Defence Society Limited.
